Homebrewing kits have a high barrier to entry due to being very time, labor and research intensive. How can I lower the barrier to entry for brewing your own alcohol?

EXPERIMENTATION

I made four different hard ciders in mason jars and a large traditional carboy (not pictured), as a proof of concept. They tasted pretty good but noticed some issues.

INITIAL DESIGN & 1st PROTOTYPE

By shrinking down the size of the jar, this design blends into a regular kitchen countertop and allows for use of fruits already at home.


Pre-measured dissolvable yeast tablets makes the whole process easier. Turning home brewing from multi-hour weekend activity into a weekday activity.


The 3-piece airlock is designed to keep oxygen from ruining the fermentation process and can be removed to pour the drink. A built-in filter negates the need for an annoying bottling process, simply decant into a glass or drink right from the jar.

This simple design reimagines the mason jar form factor into a purpose built all-in-one solution for home brewing.

Consumables (yeast and campden tablets) are provided in a separate dual chamber container.

The airlock and consumables container are designed to fit inside the jar when packaged.

BREWING STEPS

Wash everything thoroughly with soap and hot water.

Add up to 4tbps of sugar/honey. Dissolve in water.

Add up to 4tbps of sugar/ honey. Dissolve in water.

Fill jar halfway with chopped fruits.

Fill up to MAX line with water.

Add a white Campden tablet to sterilize.

Open airlock and fill halfway with water.

Close jar with lid and insert closed airlock securely into the spout.

Add up to 4tbps of sugar/ honey. Dissolve in honey.

Add a yellow yeast tablet into the jar.

Leave in a warm place. It is done when bubbling stops.
